"Duncan the First, the 'gracious Duncan' of Shakespeare's great tragedy of Macbeth, who was King of the Cumbrians, and succeeded his maternal grandfather King Malcolm II, on 25 November 1034.He was murdered by Macbeth at Bothnagowan, now called Pitgaveny,near Elgin, 14 August 1040.
