Mr. and Mrs. Charles Swanson of 553 North River Street, city, observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, Feb. 14. They celebrated by holding open-house at their home yesterday afternoon and evening for all their friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Swanson came to Wilkes-Barre in 1888 from Sweden, their native home. They were married on Feb. 14, 1891, in this city. Mr. Swanson is well known by many residents of North Wilkes-Barre as the proprietor of a grocery store at North Main and Maple streets. They have been residents in the First ward of the city for 52 years. Up until recent months, Mr. Swanson had been employed at the Wilkes-Barre Lace Company. They have always been active in church work and have for over 50 years been members of the Trinity Lutheran Church, North Main street. All their children and grand-children were home to celebrate this occasion.
A family dinner will be held today at noon at Hotel Sterling for the immediate family and friends. They have six children who are as follows: Edwin A., of Kingston; Ernest B., of New York; Carl, at home; Hilding, of Philadelphia; Mrs. Ralph Kahler, a home and Mrs. Kenneth Allen, of this city. There are also six grandchildren.
The couple received many gifts, telegrams, cablegrams, and best wishes from their family and friends.
