  Simon's cemetery marker states that he was 30 years old when he died. In the 1880 Kalamazoo County, Michigan Census, Simon is unmarried and the resident of the Michigan Asylum for the Insane of which George C. Palmer is the Superintendent. Simon is identified as a "farmer's son".
